Graphite is my main medium for making artwork. This is because graphite comes in many forms. You have a regular pencil, mechanical pencil, solid pieces, and powder. With that many options of 1 material, you’re able to make all sorts of textures. Graphite differs in hardness by how much it’s compressed and baked. This gives the opportunity for creating different values. Values are essentially how light and dark something is on a scale of white to black. The whole point to value is to create the illusion of light and shadows. If you understand and implement value correctly in drawings you are able to create realistic looking drawings.
